  • The Gizzard of Oz

the_osbornes.jpg The MTV premiere of The Osbournes starts tonight at 10:30 PM EST. Do try and catch Sharon Osbourne’s latest genius in action as she turns MTV and her family into a living breathing commercial for her main act. Speaking of which, Ozzfest stands to top the touring acts of 2002 in revenues and attendance. Despite the fact that Ozzy is on his 3rd retirement from touring. I swear, he retires every time he gets involuntarily thrown into rehab, caught shagging a groupie, or busted for urintating on a national shrine.

Seriously, you also should check out the Osbournes views on parenting for a hearty laugh. Ironically, they are typical overindulgent boomer parents struggling with the ultimate example of “Do As I Say, Not as I Do” with their children: “Now, Jack… please don’t snort cocaine from your girlfriends tits at the dinner table!” Can you imagine having the most insane bastard on earth for a father figure? I mean, not just insane but, one that could party your young ass under the table and then some… Remarkable life that man has led, indeed remarkable. Now, if Sharon can just keep him alive for one more year… That will be remarkable.

  • Corporate Death Penalty

kuro5hin asks an interesting question, should there be a corporate death penalty? Enrongate, Arthur Andersen, others?

  • Online Charter Schools Feel Crush

Rocky start in ‘Cyber’ classrooms gives online distance learning delivery charter schools a difficult time. School districts don’t want to part with the cash as traditional educators scratch their heads and wonder amongst themselves: “I know this must be wrong… it simply must be!” Technophobia at its most acute.

  • Education For Death

In the 40’s, during WWII Disney produced Education for Death, a propaganda cartoon. The film differed from they more typical Bugs or Daffy slapping our enemies about in a humorous way. Decrying Nazi propaganda, it is itself a bit of propaganda. Particularly hilarious is a scene where Hitler is carrying about Germany as which manifests itself as a huge female opera singer and Hitler is the Prince Charming… you’ll scream.

Anyway, follow this link. It’s on my webserver and the upload speed isn’t great for you cable users. You can stream it from my site, or you can “right click” and “save as” to your hard drive. Enjoy

  • Pardon Me, Isn’t That Your Penis Lying There?

hot_dog_penis_story.jpg Hastings, Nebraska police are investigating the discovery a severed human penis found near the vaccum at an auto wash. They take disembodied peni very seriously, they called a press conference, launched a homicide investigation (which is normal, under the circumstances) and called in other agencies. Police say they weren’t sure if the pathologist would be able to determine if the body part was removed from a living or deceased man. They also did not know what was used to sever the body part and said the examinations should determine if the penis is whole or not. Hastings police are requesting that anyone with possible information about this incident call them at (402) 461-2380.

The locals reacted, ” “My only thought is there’s some guy missing it somewhere,” said Mike Nelson, 25, of Hastings. “How could he not notice it missing?”

Said 38-year-old Chris Geier of Hastings: “I thought about buying the car wash and calling it Frankenwash.” (Hey, that’s really funny! You should do it, you doofus…)

  • Waylon Jennings dead at 64

After a long battle with diabetes. He was only 64.

“Jennings was plagued with health problems in recent years that made it difficult for him to walk. His left foot was amputated in December. He had also suffered from a bad back and heart trouble. But the fire that made him a country outlaw burned undiminished in recent years.”

  • Can Dot-Com Resurrection Pay E-Commerce Dividends?

In the aftermath of the dot-com shakeout, surviving e-tailers have swooped in to buy the assets of defunct companies, relaunching once-dead sites to capitalize on existing brand names or e-tail foundations. So far, anecdotal evidence seems to show that when the price is right, bringing dead dot-coms back to life can be a sound strategy.

  • Giant Foods Celebrete Black History Month

giant_foods.jpg Giant Food Stores officials apologized after one of its stores displayed a sign saying: “In honor of Black History Month we at Giant are offering a special savings on fried chicken.”

Giant was embarassed, apologized and noted that “Giant is sponsoring several programs for Black History Month, including having jazz bands and soul food… A major part of our mission is to give back to the community. Black History Month is one of those very positive things that we do.”

Ummm… looks like they still didn’t get it. After all that, getting bad press, getting chastized by the local NAACP… the brass sends down a mouth-piece and what does he do? Digs himself deeper. He may as well have said… “Giant loves colored people, in fact we employ many, many of them. Why we have colored baggers, colored stock boys, colored cart chasers… and in honor of Black History Month… they’ll get an additional 10% off of all fried chicken, watermelons, and greens!”

  • Fark and the “Pay Me Now” Fracus

fark.com is launching TotalFARK.com a paid content area. Indeed fark is betting that people will pay $50.00 a year to read their typos, omissions, and general frathouse nonsense. Apparently, they are sick of handing out wads of cash for all of the bandwidth they must use. Despite that fark.com is like many popular orgs that are struggling to make ends meet. Let’s face it, banner revenues are picking up but, they’ll never pay your mortgage.

In light of that… paxtonland is launching totalpaxtonland.com in which you will be charged at least $50.00 per year to read my typos, omissions, and general geeky nonsense. Ahhhh… I can just smell the salt water of Key West. It won’t be long now! I knew this internet thing would make me rich someday.

  • Catholic Molestation Cover-up

The Boston Globe Online has a two part expose’ with a follow up describing a massive coverup by the Boston Archdiocese. “…Under an extraordinary cloak of secrecy, the Archdiocese of Boston in the last 10 years has quietly settled child molestation claims against at least 70 priests (via Metafilter).” This makes my head spin. One law firm stated that they settled cases with clients for over 50 men involving some form of molestation or abuse. The rest were public and dealt with in court. The article states that of the 700 men involved in the diocese in the last several years, not fewer than 70 have been committed a sexual act with a child and been caught or, accused. 10%!

  • DanoWorks Online

So, Dan Hiveley’s page is back online. After a long hiatus, he is back sporting a new design. There is some areas that aren’t quite finished yet. Make sure and take a look at Dan’s original (sold mind you) mixed media art. I wish I could see them up close…. Also, he’s running the only shoutcast server on the internet that features classic jazz.

  • Lancelot Link, Secret Chimp

lance9.jpgIn 1999, Diane Bernard and Jeff Krulik produced I Created Lance Link. A documentary about the 70’s Saturday morning series that included an all primate cast. My favorite part of the show was the musical interludes. They put these animals in wigs, hipster clothes, and handed them instruments and then laid down a track for them to “lip sync” the result was hilarious. The all-chimp band was called “The Evolution Revolution” and I think they did original music.

I remember, as many of you do, loving this show. Jeff and I were talking about this show, fondly. We knew that it made a brief comeback in the early 90’s via Comedy Central. But, it’s not the sort of thing that Cartoon Network would be intersted in.

I’m sure that there is more information available about this show but, it will jog your memory banks.

  • Nader Barks at Gates

Ralph Nader wants Microsoft to pay dividends to investors, saying the software giant’s $36 billion cash pile amounts to an illegal tax shelter for wealthy shareholders such as Chairman Bill Gates.

“It is significant that a small number of persons who run the company hold a substantial share of the stock in the company, a fact that is very unusual for such a large publicly traded corporation,” the letter said.

“This also raises questions about whether or not these persons, including yourself, are accumulating these staggering sums of cash to advance other agendas, rather than to advance the interest of shareholders,” it said.

  • From the “More Male Myths Destroyed” Dept.

Most Molested Boys Don’t Molest Others as Adults

NEW YORK (Reuters Health) – A “cycle” of child sexual abuse seems to exist for only a minority of male victims, but not at all for female victims, British researchers report.

    Accompanying myths destroyed:

“Homosexual men and transvestites were significantly less likely to be perpetrators than heterosexual men and men who were not transvestites.”

Boy, lets please not dig any deeper… we may even find men who actually suffered as a result of abuse and molestation as children. Not the slavering sex maniacs that we have been trained to expect. This domain has been the exclusive territory of women and girls for uncountable years. There is no sympathy for boys, just repulsion and a permanent scar cast by societal expectations. Much like the scarlet letter. Boys are expected to “suck it up” and “walk it off.”

The article concludes by saying, “…the real challenge for society is to develop treatment programs that are then evaluated by long-term follow-up.”

Imagine that. Treatment for men who were sexually abused as children. Let’s see here, go to google and try different combinations of search terms. “Child sexual abuse men” vs. “Child sexual abuse women” The result, women always win.

  • Buddy The First Dog, Dead

He was a loyal companion and brought us much joy. He will truly be missed.”

Can you imagine being the person who murders an ex-president’s dog? What a story to pass through the generations.

  • More fun in Michigan

Troopers from the Michigan State Police Gaylord post have arrested a Gaylord man, 21, on charges of assault with intent to do great bodily harm less than murder and have issued a warrant for a second man – after the two allegedly set the leg of John Fowler, 20, of Gaylord, afire with lighter fluid at a party that apparently got out of hand in the early morning hours of Saturday.

God have mercy… when I’m old these people will run the country.

  • Cinnamon

Then there was the story of the fellows who executed the Cinnamon Challenge 2001 [CC2K1] in which one fellow was challanged to eat a tablespoon of cinnamon. Makes for great laughs, problem is it’s not particularly pleasant when erupting from one’s nose. Although funny, it would have been helpful to them if they had noted that cinnamon, in quantity, is poisionous. But, only in oil form and I doubt that enough of the stuff could be extracted from ground cinnamon. However, one can compare it’s heat to cayenne or, perhaps mild habeneros.

  • NORAD Tracks Santa

paxtonland renders the obligatory link to NORAD’s Santa tracking website. This year, they are sporting a redesign, 5 new languages, and a Santa Cam.

this is the sixth year we’ve posted this link but, they’ve been doing this since 1958.

  • A Dying Boys Last Wish

A terminally ill boy had his dying wish granted in Australia this month, but ethicists are still at odds over whether it was the right thing to do.

“The wish was not for a trip to Disneyland or to meet a famous sports star. Instead, the 15-year-old wanted to lose his virginity before he died of cancer.

Hospital staff initially wanted to pool donations to pay for a prostitute, but the ethical and legal implications prevented them from doing so. The psychologist presented members of the clergy with the dilemma and found no clear answer.

“It really polarized them,” he said. “About half said, ‘What’s your problem?’ And the other half said [it] demeans women and reduces the sexual act to being just a physical one.”

  • Sophie Hubble’s Peanut Butter Scotch Bars Recipe

This recipe was handed down to me by my grade school cook. Now, you’d think, “School, cook, hrmmm? yeeech!” But, she was truly brilliant. She cooked everything from scratch, including home-made bread. We really didn’t appreciate that then but, I do now.

Anyway, at lunchtime, every once and a while, she would serve these wonderful bars. They tasted like nothing I’ve ever had before, or since. Heavy, rich, and full of awful fat, one could live on these things for months and months. I loved them… and couldn’t wait until she made them. The school/church I attended then published a cookbook and her recipe for these bars showed up.

Anyway, Sophie is long gone now, but her food lives on? here’s a little bit of it:

  • Freck’s New Feet II

A while ago, the internet discovered the guy who was going cut off his own feet online. You can see him do it live for $20.00 (of course it’s not free). Hells bells! if I were to do this, I would charge too… since he’s on social security and medicaid, how else will he pay for the procedure.

Anyway, I just wanted to remind you that the date is coming up on Jan. 5 Get your tickets in advance.

  • Google Catalogs

Google Catalog Search launched today? Not sure but, it rocks.

  • Arcade Action

It’s an old link but, I was looking around for a browser game to while away the time and I found Norbert’s Emulators again. Had a blast. You should check it out. I reccommend Tempest… kill an hour or so.

When I play these games, either real or emulated, I imagine that I am 14 again, back at the 7-11 on Dort Hwy. Playing the Tempest upright there. I always used to try and beat the scores so that I could leave my signature “DDP” on the top. Having a little time on my hands helped. I left that “DDP,” I’m proud to say on that game a lot, as well as a few others in that 2-3 mile radius of my house. God I was as pathetic then as I am now.

  • Sometimes You Can’t Explain

A Tokyo woman has died trying to dig up the cash buried by a character in the movie Fargo.

“…police officers tried to explain to her that “Fargo” was only a movie, but faced a language barrier. The department has interpreters for several languages, he said, but not Japanese. Police called area ethnic restaurants looking for a Japanese interpretor, but they were unable to find one. Since Konishi hadn’t done anything illegal and her paperwork was apparently in order, Sevart said police had no reason to hold her.” Sadly, she died a few days later, no one knows why. Real life really is stranger than fiction.

  • Lady Justice is Blind (and nude and drunk)

Broward County FL – A circuit court judge, Joyce Julian was arrested Saturday on a disorderly intoxication charge after the Nassau County Sheriff Office says she ran down the halls of a posh northeast Florida resort naked from the waist down.

“She later told deputies that she had been a victim of an attempted sexual assault after an unidentified person slipped an unknown substance into her drink.”

Still she is being charged with disorderly intoxication while her assertion that she was sexually assaulted in under investigation.
