Giant Food Stores officials apologized after one of its stores displayed a sign saying: “In honor of Black History Month we at Giant are offering a special savings on fried chicken.”
Giant was embarassed, apologized and noted that “Giant is sponsoring several programs for Black History Month, including having jazz bands and soul food… A major part of our mission is to give back to the community. Black History Month is one of those very positive things that we do.”
Ummm… looks like they still didn’t get it. After all that, getting bad press, getting chastized by the local NAACP… the brass sends down a mouth-piece and what does he do? Digs himself deeper. He may as well have said… “Giant loves colored people, in fact we employ many, many of them. Why we have colored baggers, colored stock boys, colored cart chasers… and in honor of Black History Month… they’ll get an additional 10% off of all fried chicken, watermelons, and greens!”
