SVG is another stab at standardizing graphics. Macromedia, Sun, IBM, Adobe, Corel, Microsoft (plus more) all got together and tried to agree to standardize graphics formats like, GIF, JPG, PNG, and so on… The SVG project is designed and run by the WC3. You can read more about this stuff from the links below. Yes, there are examples to be seen in at the Adobe site, they do have a cross browser plug in to see the stuff at the main Adobe SVG site. Development support exists for Illustrator 9 (which no one uses anymore). But photoshop 6 will be able to export in SVG. Plus, I’m sure that a whole bunch of SVG plug-ins will emerge as well.
Finally, heres a linkfest of SVG research:
Well, a good place to start picking up information is here ath the W3C Scalable Vector Graphics (SVG) main site. An old Webreview article that has good general information, yet is a little out of date. Here is a webmonkey article that is a lot more current and reads a bit better. A Builder.com interview with the guy who runs the thing at the WC3. WDVL (web developers virtual library) article on SVG. An IRTG.org piece that is not too bad. Finally a list of SVG software and software projects from the DMOZ open directory project.
Hope that answers your questions, now get back to work dammit!
