People have asked me what I think of the Terri Schiavo case and all of the nonsense surrounding it. Honestly, I can’t completely comprehend how most of this country can sit back and allow this blatant stunt to actually have meaning. Of all of the lowest, most underhanded and cowardly ways to push the right to life agenda, this is beyond all reproach.
To take advantage of an intense and personal family drama that should be unfolding in private is unconscionable to say the least. To say the most, I think that the entire republican and “yes men” democrat hypocritical pack of slavering idiots in congress, the senate, and the white house each should be made to change this poor woman’s diapers for 1 month of the 15 years she’s been a vegetable. If that were to happen, they’d have stood on her oxygen hose a long time ago.
To stop an entire country’s focus upon all of the wrong and despicable acts these people are perpetrating on a daily basis and hijack the media focus away from it with this stunt makes me want to rethink my opposition to the death penalty. Which, by the way, Jeb and George lead the industrialized world in executions… this is a construct that is outside the realm of my ability to comprehend as well. Right to life, to those we like?
From the righteous and saintly Tom Delay:
It is more than just Terri Schiavo. This is a critical issue for people in this position, and it is also a critical issue to fight that fight for life, whether it be euthanasia or abortion. I tell you, ladies and gentlemen, one thing God has brought to us is Terri Schiavo to elevate the visibility of what’s going on in America. That Americans would be so barbaric as to pull a feeding tube out of a person that is lucid and starve them to death for two weeks. I mean, in America that’s going to happen if we don’t win this fight.
The baby Jesus weeps… I would like to pull a feeding tube through his ass. God did not give us Terri Schiavo, god has tried to take her back to the earth. Mankind is trying to prevent what nature intends. This is not a harbinger of our sentiment and regard for the sanctity of human life. This is a cheap circus stunt in which the republican majority can capture a bit of attention and play on the fears of an aging generation of born-agains. As for his remarks about our barbarism… I can think of many places in this very country where barbarism is committed and actually encouraged against helpless people, citizens of this country. I can think of thousands of once healthy children and families that have been denied food, shelter and health care, despite our ability to provide it. I can think of many thousands of acts of barbarism that are being committed everyday and sanctioned by this same majority and resold to us as righteous and holy justice.
So, here’s what I really think of poor Terri Shiavo and the cheap carnival side show they’ve created out of this:
