  • Aiyana Jones

7 year old Aiyana Jones was shot and killed in Detroit early Sunday morning (5/16/10).

    The cops killed her.

The first breaking news reported that it was an accident…  It gets much worse from there. Much.

The target was Chauncey Owens, they suspect that he killed Jerean Blake, 17. The Detroit police achieved a no-knock warrant for Owens, who was in the apartment upstairs.  The police SWAT team arrived at 12:45am with camera crews from The First 48 to forcibly enter both units of the duplex.  The SWAT team tossed a flash grenade through a window, which landed on and burned the young girl, then a dispute of the sequence of events begins:

1).  Either the police shot through the front door striking her in the neck, head, and killing Aiyana as she was burning alive from the grenade…. then entered to home to discover what they had done.

2).  Or, they entered the home, were confronted by the child’s grandmother, who reached around the riot shield, grabbed the officers weapon, and forced it to discharge several times, striking Aiyana in the head, neck, and killing her as she burned alive from one of the flash grenades.

No matter what side of the story is true.  The child remains dead and there is footage, as the camera crews filmed the entire incident.

Geoffrey Fieger now represents the family, the mayor is angry with Fieger and accuses him of just cashing in.

To make matters worse, Jerean Blake’s mother is saying that Aiyana’s father and Owens bragged about killing her son, who may have looked at Owens wrong.

The story has dropped away into obscurity as a headline from local news.

The Reverand Al Sharpton will (likely) give the eulogy.

    Imagine if she were white?

  • Price for hot air continues to skyrocket

So, apparently the New York Times has decided to charge non-subscribers for unlimited use of its site. I’m not sure if I can speak for anyone but myself but, I just don’t care.  I think I’d rather eat a news paper than actually read it and I won’t pay anyone for the filler between advertisements that they’ve shoved down my throat for decades.

All I can really say about news print media is, good bye and good riddance.  As the MBA’s frantically scramble to try to figure out how to wring blood from turnips, I’ll just keep on gathering my news in my own way, reading what really is good content.  For free.

Sorry papers, you lost us all.  Too bad your content was so abysmal that you drove  the advertisers and readers out the door.  Too bad your senior executive ranks couldn’t live without multi-multi-million dollar salaries and bonuses, even in a near depression.  Too bad you couldn’t understand the impact of the internet until it consumed your advertisers and readers.  Too bad I’ve nothing to line the bottom of birdcages…

Are you paying attention Comcast, Time Warner, Rogers, Etc.. ?!  I doubt it.  I sincerely doubt it because your are next and I can hardly wait.

Gas Prices Set Another Record, Could Rise

While gas prices usually peak in August, any major disruption to oil production facilities in the Gulf of Mexico caused by Hurricane Katrina could keep prices high even longer. The storm was heading for New Orleans Sunday with 175-mph winds and a threat of a 28-foot storm surge.

  • Adventures in DC

People fled US Capitol, White House on foot.

“Run. Get out. Keep running,” police said as they hustled people out of the Capitol with a calm intensity. “Keep going,” officers told the crowd. “We’re under attack,” at least one officer was heard saying as the alert level skyrocketed from yellow to orange to red, the most serious threat.

We’re under attack by two lost dudes in shorts flying a 2 seater! They’re throwing tennis balls filled with urine at us! Umm, they’re wagging their lounges at us! They’re showing us their bums! Oh the humanity!

    Meanwhile, in the plane:

What? I can’t hear you over the sound of the map crumpling. Hang on let me toss out this Starbucks cup. Oops, it had a little left in it. Okay, the Potomac should be on the left. Look those people are waving at us… Hi! Hi, down there! Don’t they look small. Hey, what’s that on the horizon? Oh look there’s another one! Hey, look! They’re jets! Cool!

  • Everybody Is A Loser In This Game!

People have asked me what I think of the Terri Schiavo case and all of the nonsense surrounding it. Honestly, I can’t completely comprehend how most of this country can sit back and allow this blatant stunt to actually have meaning. Of all of the lowest, most underhanded and cowardly ways to push the right to life agenda, this is beyond all reproach.

To take advantage of an intense and personal family drama that should be unfolding in private is unconscionable to say the least. To say the most, I think that the entire republican and “yes men” democrat hypocritical pack of slavering idiots in congress, the senate, and the white house each should be made to change this poor woman’s diapers for 1 month of the 15 years she’s been a vegetable. If that were to happen, they’d have stood on her oxygen hose a long time ago.

To stop an entire country’s focus upon all of the wrong and despicable acts these people are perpetrating on a daily basis and hijack the media focus away from it with this stunt makes me want to rethink my opposition to the death penalty. Which, by the way, Jeb and George lead the industrialized world in executions… this is a construct that is outside the realm of my ability to comprehend as well. Right to life, to those we like?

From the righteous and saintly Tom Delay:

It is more than just Terri Schiavo. This is a critical issue for people in this position, and it is also a critical issue to fight that fight for life, whether it be euthanasia or abortion. I tell you, ladies and gentlemen, one thing God has brought to us is Terri Schiavo to elevate the visibility of what’s going on in America. That Americans would be so barbaric as to pull a feeding tube out of a person that is lucid and starve them to death for two weeks. I mean, in America that’s going to happen if we don’t win this fight.

The baby Jesus weeps… I would like to pull a feeding tube through his ass. God did not give us Terri Schiavo, god has tried to take her back to the earth. Mankind is trying to prevent what nature intends. This is not a harbinger of our sentiment and regard for the sanctity of human life. This is a cheap circus stunt in which the republican majority can capture a bit of attention and play on the fears of an aging generation of born-agains. As for his remarks about our barbarism… I can think of many places in this very country where barbarism is committed and actually encouraged against helpless people, citizens of this country. I can think of thousands of once healthy children and families that have been denied food, shelter and health care, despite our ability to provide it. I can think of many thousands of acts of barbarism that are being committed everyday and sanctioned by this same majority and resold to us as righteous and holy justice.

So, here’s what I really think of poor Terri Shiavo and the cheap carnival side show they’ve created out of this:

    schiavo bingo

  • Dean’s Three Day Media Rule: Day 3

Day 1. Day one, you learn something may have happened. You don’t know exactly what, or where, or who, or how.

Day 2. Now you know that definitely something happened. You may even know where, you may know how and you may know who but, definitely not all of them at once.

Day 3. You know something happened, you know where it happened, you know how it happened, you know who it happened to. Here we are at day three, and guess what? We know all of the above. You can now proceed to day 4 on to infinity… absorb not one ounce of their bullshit.

Day 1. Day one, you learn something may have happened. You don’t know exactly what, or where, or who, or how.

Day 2. Now you know that definitely something happened. You may even know where, you may know how and you may know who but, definitely not all of them at once. Notice this time that they are still reporting different numbers of dead and even attempting to speculate as to motive (preemptive bullshit). Note the fantastic headline from The Scotsman “Massacre as Hitler-Worshiping ‘Angel of Death’ Goes on Gun,” pure art at it’s bull-shittiest finest.

Day 3. You know something happened, you know where it happened, you know how it happened, you know who it happened to.

All other days. Pure media bullshit. Keep that in mind during the coming days on this particular story.

  • Sad News

Kennedy who inspired Special Olympics dies. Rosemary Kennedy, the oldest sister of the Kennedy children was born mildly retarted. Eunice Kennedy Shriver, later founded the Special Olymipics. That alone, is a remarkable story.

    The AP story goes on:

But as she got older, her father worried his daughter’s mild condition would lead her into situations that could damage the family’s reputation.

Little did he know that several other family members would handle the “reputation damage” part quite effectively and without the benefit of a lobotomy.

  • Always Fashionably Late

U.S. works on bringing aid to South Asia. 5 days after the fact. Instead of leading the world once again:

“The disaster around the Indian Ocean continues to grow both in size and scope,” President Bush said Friday in announcing that the United States would provide 10 times its earlier $35 million offering – an amount criticized as miserly for such a rich nation.

    God save them.

  • The Zero-Tolerance Threat Level Is Red

A 10-year-old girl was placed in handcuffs and taken to a police station because she took a pair of scissors to her elementary school.

The scissors were discovered while students’ belongings were being searched for property missing from a teacher’s desk.

Now, lets think about this for a second; someone in that school actually called the police for this. Not only that, the cops actually arrested the girl. To their credit, better judgement overcame them and they let her go. The administration, on the other hand typically is not overcome by better judgement or, judgement of any kind. That is doubtful because the suspended her for five days.

These asinine decisions cause life long harm to children and parents. It simply has to stop. Our children are being treated as felons by a system with automatic and severe punishments for the stupidest reasons. Squirt guns, model rockets, asprin from the cupboard, etc… Zero-tolerance should never have become a tool for lazy, frightened administrators. Nor, should it be used in our court systems. Nor, should it be used by our god-blessed administration in domestic and foreign policies either.

We are loosing the ability to think for ourselves and govern ourselves in the process.
