386 DX – Cyberpunk-rock band Performed by 386/DX, 4mb RAM, EGA, 40 Mb HD synchronized text-to-speech and midi synthesis. Very cool, but my 386 was an SX-20 w/2mb RAM which I later upgraded to a DX-40 (cyrix chipset) with a whopping 16 mb RAM. I never had a EGA card in a 386 though. I’m not sure why those guys did that… well, I guess 2-4 bit graphics is kind of cool looking now. Anyway I ran that machine (ask Gary, until about 1995!

I saw the Java Thesaurus
I saw the Java Thesaurus a while back and had completely forgotten about it. I remember the anchored image, floating object class from the first JDK (going back 3 years now). I also seem to recall that bacardi.com used a similar object in it’s navigation menu.

Imaxo pays you to go
Imaxo
pays you to go on job interviews. Fees for interviews range from $25 – $1000. Some people could make some extra pocket change… You can only interview a maximum of 12 times a year, so you couldn’t live off of doing this unless you had a lot of aliases. -

Debate questions we’d really like
Debate questions we’d really like to see (inspired and contributed by Kelly
Mendenhall):- Who would win, between you, in a fist fight? Arm wrestling match? Farting
contest? - Please count up the number of favors you owe big business, hollywood, and
special intrest groups - Which one of you is closer to actually working a single day in your life?
- Can you control your wife?
- Do you really think you’re fooling anyone?
- Since it is an aparent draw as to which of you is more attractive, which
of you has the larger penis? - Gentlemen, if you had to, would you rather make love to Janet Reno or Madeleine
Albright? - How do you plan to address the growing crop circle and cattle mutilation
problem in the United States? - Mr. Gore, since you invented the Internet, where can I find the best porn
sites? - Mr. Bush, who is the current governor of Texas? Take your time – you may
use a lifeline if you need to. - If you could change one thing about your wives, would you make their breasts
bigger or make their asses smaller?

Not that I’m posting a
Not that I’m posting a lot, but I’m going to be away for the weekend. This will be the first time in 12 years that I’ve done any kind of “guys” type thing. Some of us will be getting a cabin and several bottles of J.W.R. (if you don’t know, don’t ask…) and behaving like men should behave when men are away from women… Actually, I’m bringing several guitars, my big black boots (made for walkin’) and a carton of non-filters. I don’t plan on doing much but cooking (and eating), playing music, and enjoying a minute away. So, I’ll be away from a computer for a few days… first time in many, many years.
PS: looks like I’m taking over as webmaster for
veteransfornader.org I like that idea… I’m also working on the Oakland County Republican Committee website (oaklandgop.com <- don't try it, it's dead). Will start on that on Mon. (hey, it's a paid gig... what can I say?)Love, peace, and hair grease… -ddp

If anyone is interested, Weft 3 is now available here. I just installed it so I haven’t actually used it yet, but I hope there are significant improvements over Weft 2.

Weather Underground: Flint, Michigan Forecast
Weather Underground: Flint, Michigan Forecast calls for snow on Sunday. Boy, am I ever a looser. In Tampa however where Tom and my Dad live, it’s a miserable 81 degrees, boy I don’t envy them at all.
PS. I only have one word for the debate: Tedius…

Yet, another paxtonland exclusive!
Ronald Reagan is Al Gore’s real father! Click the thumbnail image above for the unmistakable evidence! DNA evidence is pending as soon as our paxtonland DNA experts can determine if Mr. Reagan has any DNA left (luckily, we’ve been through enough paternity tests here at paxtonland to have experts on hand).
Stay tuned for all the latest news and updates.

George Dubbya Dance. I don’t
George Dubbya Dance. I don’t usually go for this stuff, but it’s really quite funny. Especially on the heels of his pathetic performance at last night’s debate. I really think that my five year old son would have been able to defeat him with ease. Of course, many of you know my five year old son and don’t have to be told that. Oh yeah, one more thing, you gotta see Bushisms and you thought that Quayle was a dull knife?

Oh yeah, I forgot, got my TiVo yesterday as promised. Now I have to set it up, get a phone line to it negotiate the menus. All for what? So I can rip it apart and scam the hard drive out of it? Nah, I think I just begin the disembowelment tonight.

A wonderful discussion has emerged
A wonderful discussion
has emerged among the web elite about the merits of the ease of publishing versus
the production of good writing. However, I think that if you read them, they
have confused three very important concepts: Publishing, writing, and technology.
Good technology does enable ease of publishing. Ease of publishing and good
technology will never enable good writing. Word does not make good writers,
Visual basic does not make good programmers. Photoshop does not make good artists.
On, and on, and on… Founders
of blogger are pissed
at Neilsen that he didn’t mention them. Jeffrey Zeldman says most of us are too close to the
discussion to see the point.Jakob
Neilsen – Content Creation for Average PeopleWebchick
and Carl Malmund – Techno Greeks, on media.orgHTML should be taught to kids who are heading,
or want to head in a technical career path. I’m in the development of a technical
vocational center for 9th. – 12th. Graders, HTML is on the syllabus, but so
is CSS, XML, photoshop, and web server administration. For many, it’s just a
part of web development. Doesn’t have much to do with everyday people, doesn’t
have anything to do with writing. Probably enough said about thatI think that technology has nothing to do with
good writing. Technology, the use if a tool, or ease of publishing has never
enabled good writing and it never will. The same construct applies to technology
and the creation of art and music. The ease of the tool does not enable or guarantee
great results, just a lot of similar results. Writers may have felt the same
way when the process of mass printing (Gutenberg press) was perfected. Therefore,
in that respect the evolution of the internet can be viewed as a repeat of history.
In fact, there is a lot to be said for the ease of production, through technology,
enabling bad, or mediocre, content to be spread even further. Thus, making it
very difficult for good writing to be found in the mêlée of bad
writing. Even worse, it makes it very difficult for good writers to be paid
well for their good writing. Unless you are S. King, no one will want to download
your book and pay you for it. Yet.To confuse the discussion of ease of publishing
with good writing is a mistake. To talk of ease of publishing through the use
of good technology is wonderful The two things are very different. Talk of tools
and methods are for technical people. Teaching good writing and teaching technology
to kids are terribly different, disparate discussions
