CNN — Taliban fighter from prison uprising says he’s American One of the non-Afghan Taliban fighters who survived last week’s prison uprising near Mazar-e Sharif in northern Afghanistan is an American, U.S. officials said Sunday on condition of anonymity.

The fellow identified himself as John Walker. Speaking english with a middle class background, walker left home 2 years ago to study the Koran. Six months ago, he joined the Taliban and was trained at Osama Bin Laden funded facilities. When the offensive upon Taliban began, he fled. Taken prisoner, he was drawn into the battle when uprising at Konduz began.

He has been sequestered by Americans and is being cared for and questioned. Wounded, tired, and starving, he still maintains support of the 9/11 attack, the Taliban, and considers himself a jihad fighter in a holy war.
