Quite a while I was searching for a replacement for the typical I.M. (instant messenger) client. By that I mean programs such as ICQ, AIM, Yahoo! Messanger, etc. While looking around, I found Jabber and got very excited. Jabber.com has finished it’s 1.0 beta release and I’m running it as you read this. The program looks very promising to me as it is open source, has versions for Mac, UNIX/LINUX, and Windows. Additionally, it also has gateways to ICQ and AIM. Only Yahoo! Messanger is missing from the list. I doubt that it will ever support YM and the probability that AOL will merge users for ICQ and AIM is high… this may well be a useless endeavor. But, it doesn’t hurt to look around. – c’ya in the funny papers…
