  • ‘Pax Americana’ Needs American Blood As Currency

    Click For More Images - Warning Graphic PicturesI’ve gotten a copy of the al Jazeera video that depicts US prisoners of war, as well as some killed (or, executed) in action. I have found the Windows Media version and the Real video version. Picture here for the video impaired.

    Earlier today, Rumsfeld chastised CNN for even thinking about airing the video. Of course, he indicates that displaying the video is a violation of parts of the Geneva convention. Rumsfeld determining matters of the Geneva Convention seems like the ultimate oxymoron to me.

    For what possible good do I wish to show this?

    I want you all to see what a “cakewalk” this war is not going to be. I want you all to see that the cost of our just war is not only Iraqi lives but, American lives too. I want Americans who think that this war is just another cool show on CNN that they can switch off when they are bored, to see that they are wrong. I can speak from experience that the cost of a political agenda is spent in human flesh and blood. I want people to see how fragile that human flesh and blood is.

    What on earth makes people think that our technology, our might, and our numbers make us invincible? The construct in quite beyond me.

    Expect more of the same. I’ll show the violence and bloodshed every chance I get.

    Random images of everyday people, living in Baghdad will be in the place of the normal “Bushisms.” At least for a while.

    Air raid sirens sound in Baghdad. After a long hiatus, CNN will once again begin the rebroadcast of that cool “Desert Storm Show.”

    12 years is a long time to wait.

    The cast and characters look like they are all are about the same, Bush (minor substitution), Colin Powell, Dick Cheney, Don (the bomb) Rumsfeld and, of course Saddam himself, as usuall getting all of the attention.

  • The Time Has Come

    Because, the UK press is reporting that the war has started. Meanwhile it is also being reported that 15 Iraqi soldiers have purportedly surrendered. Let’s hope this is a good omen.

    Someone sent me this via ICQ, I’m not sure who it was but, I think they were sending me a message. I liked it. It spoke directly to the mindless criticism that I’ve seen and read. The popular opinion of the world? The world leaders that pander to it and the ones that try to resist and will also eventually succumb, for at least a minute until the artillery begins to fly. It is as if it has become suddenly trendy to wear a certain kind of clothing, it’s just as trendy to speak out against something… just because everyone else is doing it.

    This is the type of mentality and hyperbole that drowns out clear and intelligent voices. But of course, we’re no stranger to this phenomenon.

    Here at paxtonland we’ve earned and learned our way to our opinions! After all, we’re individuals… just like everyone else!

    I was wondering if we had satellite and ground tracking cameras trained upon the shuttle. I figured it would be a matter of time until we found out. These guys track every single object in our orbit right down to things the size of a pop can. I would imagine that they were tracking STS-107 too.

  • So, the UN and the EU Don’t Like the War

    UN_logo.jpg Apparently, Bush’s state of the union address, Powell’s presentation today, and the past year and a half of spin can’t sell the war to the everyone.

    The UK’s foreign secretary gave strong backing to the Washington line, but the other three key Council members – China, France and Russia, all said the inspectors should be given more time.

    That doesn’t count Germany…. regardless… My questions to them, not that they have much of a voice on a global scale, are this:

    • Are you going to profit from the results of a post-war, democratic Iraq?
    • Are you going to seek lucrative contracts for repair and parts for oil refinery equipment?
    • Will you move quickly to benefit from a massive rebuilding of all infrastructures?
    • Will you be the first nation to be awarded that first batch of oil at the new, improved market rate?
    • Will you lay down the lives of your countrymen to have the right to these benefits?
    • Will your taxpayer shoulder the burden of what will be (and already has been) a multi-billion dollar effort?

    I’m still opposed to the war on a personal level. I still can’t support a sitting U.S. president telling the world the evils of another nation that I cannot see for myself. However, my opposition to U.S. involvement in the middle east comes from personal experience, a distinct mistrust for the current administration and it’s past connections. My regard for the war and the Bush administration does not come from a bland and loosely supported liberal sentiment of anti-war rhetoric.

    Despite what polls show, even our own here at paxtonland, despite national world opinion about the “right and wrong” of a war with Iraq. I’m sick at the thought of Iraqi children suffering more than they already have. I am loathe to see American lives placed in peril at the direction of a distrustful bunch of politicians, business leaders, and treacherous attorneys, Colin Powell excluded.

We have been informed that it is our patriotic and christian (the only state sponsored religion) duty to have faith that Bush and his “team” know what is best for Iraq. Despite what you, your common sense, and the entire world thinks.

    Have faith that the evidence will become apparent soon enough for your feeble minds to understand it. Despite the apparent lack of evidence.

    Have faith that you are being told the truth, that Iraq is not and will not be disarming, despite the fact that Blix and the rest have only compiled a preliminary report thus far, yet has found no real weapons.

    Have faith that the UN and the rest of th world is not seeing “the big picture,” that Saddam hates you all, despite the fact that those countries are saying something rather different for themselves.

    Yes, faith is a funny thing. You must maintain it despite sound logic, decency and most of all factual evidence of anything that contradicts faith. This was a much easier thing to do when the father asked for the same type of faith 11 years ago. Don’t you think?

    Instead of pot, they found straw left over from a nativity scene at a local Catholic church. The men were returning it to the farm in which it was borrowed.

    “Turkey’s claims to Iraqi oil date back to the early 1920s when the Ottoman Empire was being carved up following its defeat by the Allies in the First World War. Under a treaty signed between the new Turkish Republic and Britain, Turkey was to receive 10 per cent of all Iraqi oil revenues for a 25-year period in exchange for renouncing its territorial claims over Mosul and Kirkuk.

    That treaty was suspended in 1958 under the government of the late Turkish premier, Adnan Menderes as a gesture of goodwill towards Iraq. But subsequent governments sought to revive the treaty, to no avail.”

    Can’t they even wait until the corpses hit the ground? Perhaps, since the inspections aren’t going well, Bush and his cabinet will begin to sell shares in the Iraq aftermath. That way, perhaps the next country won’t have to exhume ancient stone tablets to prove their oil rights in Iraq and we won’t have to foot the taxpayer burden for their fetish for war.

  • A Christmas Gift

    If there is one thing I’d like to ask for this year, it’s that more people would investigate the story of Leonard Peltier. Twenty six years in prison, for a crime he did not commit, which he was convicted of due to FBI-forced and incidentally untrue testimony. The people who post to Paxtonland are a smart bunch, good with words and convincing in arguments. I’ll be writing a minimum of one letter per month to President Bush asking for clemency for Leonard (which, by the way, Clinton promised and didn’t come through with) – will you join me in doing the same? Merry Christmas everyone.

    Too bad Clinton isn’t in office now. If he had a huge of a hardon for Iraq as Bush does, this would work like a charm.

    Powell: Declaration ‘fails totally’ to come clean

    “Powell said that, so far in its analysis of the document, the United States found it to be “a catalog of recycled information and systematic omissions.”

    Now that the troops are mobilized, adequately supplied, and the infrastructure is in place. Why bother with the rest of the inspections? What manner of suprise are they waiting for? Do they think that anyone really believes that anything but this conclusion could be drawn?

    Let’s hope that the converse conclusions about Saddam also won’t come true. Like using this as an excuse to knock off a few more thousand Kurds, resort to gas and bio weapons, or, most importantly, destroy the precious oil equipment…

    No matter, if that happens Haliburton and the Cheney cronies will be ready to step in a clean up, yet again.

    The International A.N.S.W.E.R. (Act Now to Stop War & End Racism!) Coalition’s pre-war, anti-war rally has gathered considerable steam. The rally will begin at 11 am in Constitution Gardens, adjacent to the Vietnam Veterans War Memorial. We will hold a march to the White House.
