  • Domestic Violence or, Terrorism?

HomeFront of Calgary, Alberta, Canada has been given the mission to reduce domestic violence in Calgary through “coordinated community action.” Among other things they’ve done to promote domestic violence awareness, they’ve produced some (web only) public service announcements that are raising questions all over the internet.

Look at the videos yourself (video 1video 2) and be warned that they are graphic, they depict foul language and disturbing imagery. They have been banned in Canada and have caused quite heated discussions and commotions everywhere they’ve been seen.

What do you think? Are they over the top? Are they too disturbing for even Canada’s censors? Do they get their message across or, is this merely gratuitous violence to inspire “shock and awe,” to use the popular nomenclature of the day. Or, is this simply more evidence of the demonization of men in todays culture?

  • That’s Entertainment!

Everyone is so bent about Micheal Moore speaking his piece during his acceptance speech but, no one really noticed that a man who raped a 13 year old won an Oscar too.

In fact, he wasn’t present of course.. he’s in hiding as he fled the country rather than face his charges. In case you aren’t sure what I’m talking about, read the court documents yourself. That is not to say I don’t respect his talents but, I don’t respect his apparent lifestyle or, his conduct as an honorable man either.

  • The Incredible Quotable Quote

    Strange world we live in…

Germany doesn’t want to go to war, France offers to take up arms after all, and Iraq is the chair of the UN disarmament committee. (This has been an excercise in an evolving quote, try your own version today!).

  • Zero-Tolerance Stupidity Update

Ohio school suspends 1st. grader, possible expulsion pending for having a plastic knife that they gave him in the school cafeteria. The child’s parents have pledged to sue school for distributing weapons to children, if the school persists in it’s stupidity.

More evidence of school administrators avoiding logical decision-making and evading liability by creating and hiding behind “zero-tolerance” laws.

  • paxtonland Update: New Features

So, we’ve made a few changes around here. Mostly behind the scenes. Two things you will notice is that 1). comments now have permalinks. That way, if you want to mail a comment or, refer to a comment within a comment, or refer to a comment in a post, you can link directly to it. The other obvious thing you may notice is that 2). I now list the last 15 comments, by the author and the entry title. Scroll down and look on the sidebar under “Archives” and you’ll find what I’m talking about. This way, you won’t miss it too easily when someone rants back to your rave.

Finally, in the comments, I’ve removed the display of all e-mail addresses for spam protection reasons. Previously, I merely coded them to hide them from the spambots but, that is a loosing battle. I will still require an e-mail address to post comments to prevent anon commenting. I don’t save them or add you to any mailing lists. If you want to subscribe to the mailing list, you have to do that yourself, also on the sidebar. Also, you can add the URL of your website and I will display that, and it will be clickable.

Cheers from the bowels of PL. Oh, I added some more Bushisms, there are about 250 of them now.

  • These People Should Be More Careful

    I saw this headline…

    bullets_columbia.gif

…and thought, “you mean that someone shot those astronauts?”

Now, of course that’s wrong. Hell, they aren’t even spelled the same but, don’t you think that headline was just a bit misleading or, is it just me?

  • More STS-107 Links and Info

STS-107 Mission Status Center and NASA TV (Realplayer/Helix feed), which is running 24/7. Here’s another RADAR animation sequence. Some items are showing up on eBay, real or not. People are finding debris everywhere, including possible body parts. Also, son astronomers in California say they saw the shuttle in trouble much earlier. The BBC has an excellent timeline of space flight since Sputnik 1. Reminiscent of post 9/11 WTC imagery, AMC Theaters are pulling “The Core” trailers that feature the 1886 shuttle explosion. Finally there is a lot of talk about an AP prewritten article that had fluff text about the shuttle landing safely. I’ve yet to find it, however.

  • Good Is On His Side

UK Court refuses trial by combat.

After entering a not guilty plea, he threw down his unconventional challenge. Humphreys, from Bury St Edmunds, said: “I was willing to fight a champion put up by the DVLA, but it would have been a fight to the death.”

He asked the court to pick a champion of it’s choice. Now, I’m for that, I’m looking in the books to see if we have deuling laws or, other combat options under the law here too. Hell yes, allow me to step into court with my assistant, my claymore, and my good heart against the evil gub’ment system.

Anyway, the must’ve been scared shitless of the old kook because they turned him down and fined him an additional $300.

Stinking cowards. Sent in by Rich.

  • Mrs. Atty. General, Could You Not Call My House?

telemarket_granholm.jpg Michigan candidate for Governor, Jennifer Granholm has personally called my house no less than 5 times in the past 3 months. A the end of the pre-recorded telephone call, she gives a number to contact for more information. I called it and asked to be placed on their “don’t call” list. My request was apparently ignored.

Since Mrs. Granholm also list several tactics to “take control of your telephone and stop telemarketers,” I decided to follow her advice. I contacted the Direct Marketing Association (DMA) and added myelf to their national list to stop receiving calls from her campaign, but since her campaign is not a DMA member, I doubt it would help. It didn’t.

Now, remember that one of Mrs Grantham’s biggest concerns are telephone telemarketing solicitation. I have filed a complaint letter with her office, since she is the Attorney General of the State of Michigan, about her own campaign tactics… Since pre-recorded telemarketing is illegal, I thought it was my duty as a citizen to report this criminal behavior to the (ahem) proper authorities.

Somehow, I think she’ll get away with the heinous crime.

What is worse, if I was considering voting for her, she has lost my vote. What a terribly stupid way to loose a vote. Yet somehow (again), I think that she’ll win in the end. Then, I hope to begin my pre-recorded telemarketing campaign to her office. I have a arm-long list of issues, send me yours too if you wish.
